- The InnovaPax glossary now defines 36 packaging terms across technologies, materials, testing, and regulation.
- A live search box filters terms as you type, and an A–Z index lets you jump straight to a letter.
- Definitions are written to be understood by non-specialists while remaining technically accurate.
- Each entry is a quick-reference companion to the deeper guides in the Knowledge Base.
- The glossary is a living resource and will continue to grow as new topics are added.
The InnovaPax packaging glossary now covers 36 industry terms — from thermoforming and MAP to sterile barrier systems and ISO 11607 — each with a clear, accurate definition. New live search and an A–Z filter make it possible to find a definition in seconds. This article explains why consistent terminology matters, what the glossary covers, and how the new search and filter work.

Why packaging terminology matters
Packaging spans several engineering and regulatory disciplines, and the same word can mean different things in different contexts. A precise shared vocabulary reduces costly misunderstandings between design, procurement, production, and quality — and between a buyer and a supplier. A glossary is the simplest way to keep everyone aligned on what a term actually means.
What the glossary covers
The 36 terms span the full breadth of the library, grouped into four broad areas.
Technologies and processes
Thermoforming, tray sealing, modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), vacuum skin packaging, flow wrapping, and form-fill-seal.
Materials
Barrier film, laminate, mono-material, Tyvek, foil lidding, and the properties that describe them such as OTR and WVTR.
Testing and quality
Seal strength, dye penetration, accelerated aging, residual oxygen, and seal integrity.
Regulatory
Sterile barrier system, ISO 11607, EU MDR, and validation.
Sample definitions
Modified atmosphere packaging (MAP)
A technique that replaces the air inside a pack with a controlled gas mixture — typically nitrogen and carbon dioxide — to slow spoilage and extend shelf life without preservatives.
Sterile barrier system
The minimum packaging configuration that prevents the ingress of micro-organisms and allows aseptic presentation of the product at the point of use.
Mono-material
A pack constructed from a single polymer family (for example, all-PP or all-PE) so it can be recycled through existing streams, unlike multi-material laminates.
Live search and A–Z filter
The upgraded glossary adds two ways to navigate. A search box filters the list in real time as you type, matching against both the term and its definition, so you do not need to know the exact heading. An A–Z index lets you jump to any letter, which is faster when you are browsing rather than searching for something specific.
How it fits the knowledge base
The glossary is deliberately concise — a one-paragraph definition, not a full guide. Where a term deserves more depth, it points to the relevant Knowledge Base article. Think of it as the index to the library: the fastest way in when you encounter an unfamiliar term.

Frequently asked questions
How many terms does the glossary contain?
It currently defines 36 terms across technologies, materials, testing, and regulation, and it continues to grow.
Do I need to know the exact term to find it?
No. The live search matches against both the term and its definition, so a partial or related word will surface the entry.
Are the definitions technical or simplified?
Both — each definition is written to be understood without specialist background while remaining technically accurate.
